'Cabbage' Class Battle Cruiser

The most commonly encountered Romulan ship during the war were the immense cruisers given the UESN code name "CABBAGE".  CABBAGE-class cruisers had been built for the specific purpose of large fleet advances across interstellar distances. They were able to transport large numbers of missiles for ship-to-ship and ship-to-surface attacks and a powerful plasma weapon over an estimated unrefuelled distance of 3 light years, but could do so only at the expense of speed and manoeuvrability. This trade-off proved to be a fatal disadvantage when the tide of battle changed in 2158
